Blog Notes - June 16, 2023

With less than a week to go summer is peaking around the corner. Warm breezes on a gentle afternoon speak of the promises of the season. For most, school has let out and summer vacation has begun. Parents load their kids into the family SUV with an adventure just over the horizon. Heading to the beach or to the amusement park, off to visit relatives or just kicking back and relaxing we all have our favorite things to do during the beginning of the summer solstice.

Those with a creative bent may look upon the summer as a time to work out those artistic tendencies and bring forth the magic within. For me, painting summer speaks of flowers, of tropical venues... I imagine painting parrots flying overhead, the beach at sunset...maybe even a lonely lighthouse standing guard upon the sands.

Which brings me to my next thought... Debby Forshey-Choma has given us not just a fun project but also a very informative one with many fun techniques. Her theme of a beachy lighthouse is sure to please and stimulate your imagination. Be sure to take a look at her 'Nautical Light', our feature project for this issue.

If you need more inspiration, check out our collection of lighthouse-themed photos and paintings. I remember way back painting lighthouses on slate for craft shows. I always did well with them but the availability of so many images to inspire a person has sure changed over the years. Please enjoy the small collection I have found and don't be afraid to search out more. There are also quite a few artists, Debby Forshey-Choma being one of them who feature lighthouses in their designs.

I've listed the upcoming art journal challenges for the remainder of the year. I invite you all to take part and share!

A reminder...the all-new APC Expo in Chattanooga, TN is going to be one you don't want to miss. Check out the website at apcexpo.net Hotel information is now available. Hope to see you there.

Smiles!
