Grandchildren's Favorite Cookies
'This is a favorite cookie given approval by my Grandchildren.'

Recipe:
Dip Topping: combine 1/3 cup of white sugar with 1 teaspoon fresh grated orange zest. Set aside to roll dough balls in later.
Set oven to 350 degrees
1 cup of white sugar
3/4 cup softened butter
1 egg
Combine in a large bowl until creamy and well mixed.
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Combine these dry ingredients and add to butter, sugar, egg mixture
Chop 1/2 cup sweetened dried cranberries and 1/2 cup pecans. Add to the dough, then add 1 tablespoon of grated orange zest. Mix well, the dough will be very stiff.
Roll 1 inch balls, roll them into the sugar orange dip topping. Place on non-greased cookie sheet.
Flatten the balls with the bottom of a small glass or custard dish.
Bake 350 degrees for 10 to12 minutes. Let sit for 1 minute before removing cookies to a rack.
Makes about 31/2 dozen. They freeze well.
Note: do not forget to flatten the balls, they do not make a great cookie if you forget!
