Updated: Sep 8, 2019

I recently received a lovely email from one of our readers. She was writing in response to my request as to what you, the readers, would like to see on the blog. She suggested this series. Thank you Debbie King!
First up, the group Debbie belongs to and so kindly agreed to let me use in this first article.
Come meet the Lake Cumberland Decorative Artists in Somerset, Kentucky.

Debbie King serves as the president for this fun group. A seasoned group, they have been meeting for 35 years.
They cover a wide variety of media including acrylics, watercolor, pencil, oil, stenciling, and multi media. They meet the first Tuesday of every month, spending four hours painting a selected project with a chosen instructor.
Debbie says " Each of the ladies pitch in a food item and we fellowship with a meal. It’s like Thanksgiving every month. Thank goodness we have some REALLY good cooks."
They encourage younger painters to join them, quite often some of the members bring their granddaughters. A few members travel for a couple hours to join them in this monthly retreat.
As a group, they strive to contribute to the community.
Among their efforts, they have painted for the Pulaski County, Kentucky Dolly Parton Imagination Library Fund Raiser, the beautifully painted donations raised $1200. for this worthy cause.
They have also painted and donated 44 backpacks for local foster children, coordinating with the Somerset, Kentucky organization, “Be The Village”.

This fall the group will be hosting oil painter, Michael Cheek, for a 2 day seminar. Being held in Somerset, Kentucky on September 13 and 14, 2019. This event is open to the public and non members of the group.
