Anime is the Japanese term for animation or cartoons. The closely related term, manga, refers to the comic books made popular in Japan. Worldwide, both of these art forms have gained a following. The artist Osamu Tezuka offtimes referred to as 'the godfather of manga' and the 'Japanese Walt Disney', is often credited with the popularity of the art forms today.
