Mardi Gras!

What is Mardi Gras? A carnival among many countries to celebrate 'Fat Tuesday' or Shrove Tuesday. This is the day before Ash Wednesday, leading into the Christian Easter celebration. Mardi Gras is French and literally means 'Fat Tuesday', Mardi meaning Tuesday, and Gras meaning fat. The last day to eat rich foods before the fast.

Perhaps the most famous carnival is in New Orleans. A parade of brilliant colors, amazing floats, costumes, history, and tradition dating back to medieval Europe.

The colors of Mardi Gras are purple representing justice. green representing faith and gold representing power.

Mardi Gras 2021will be a bit different this year due to Covid. Parades have been banned so the creative people of New Orleans are decorating their houses as floats. A fun event with a tie to the art world with all the color and creativeness. Hope this sparks your creativity.
